Paint Night: Minneapolis Skyline (Adults)

Enjoy an evening in the city without leaving Maple Grove! In this one-night class, artist Dan McAvey will walk you through the steps to complete a 16x20" painting of the Minneapolis skyline using acrylic paints.  No painting or drawing experience is required to have a fun night and create a work of art you can bring home!  All supplies are included in the class fee.

Silk Scarf Painting (16+)

Learn the French Serti technique of silk painting while creating a beautiful scarf. Share an unforgettable afternoon of art with friends, family and new acquaintances. No art experience necessary. Create your own design as simple or complex as you would like. It's easy, it's clean, it's fun, and you get startlingly beautiful results. Small Paintings, Big Impact: Landscapes (Adults)

Have you always wanted to learn to paint but feel short on time, space, or money to put into it? In this course, we’ll learn how making small paintings can resolve all three of these issues while providing opportunities to make beautiful, complete works of art that fit perfectly on a bookshelf or a mantel. We’ll cover acrylic painting fundamentals as well as strategies for working art into your busy life. The subject for this course will be landscapes and students can expect to complete one painting each class period.

Sit Around the Camp Fire with a Glass of Wine! — acrylic canvas paint with wine included (Adults 21+)

Enjoy a glass (or two) of wine with friends while you learn about and create your take on a camp fire in the woods. This is a step-by-step class on a 12x12” canvas.  We will use acrylic paints to make a unique creation that you will love to show in your home!
Registration fee includes all supplies and two glasses of wine!

A Pour and a Dirty Pour: Acrylic paint pouring—dirty pour with wine included (Adults 21+)

Enjoy a glass (or two) of wine with friends while you learn about and create unique, abstract art. In this class, we’ll start by learning about acrylic pouring mediums and how to mix paints to get consistent results. We’ll learn a couple “dirty pour” techniques and how to make cells in your paintings. After a demonstration, you’ll get to create a unique painting of your own on a 9x12” canvas. Wear old clothes, things get messy when the paint starts pouring! Paintings take 36 hours to dry, so you’ll need to come back to the Arts Center to pick up your artwork later in the week. Registration fee includes all supplies and two glasses of wine!

Mosaic Tile Art (Adults)

The class will provide a wonderful introduction to mosaics for beginners to advanced learners! Students will receive step-by-step instruction to create a piece of mosaic art on a ceramic tile surface. You will complete your piece during this single-session class and will bring grout home to put the finishing touches on your masterpiece.

Pour. Smile. Repeat: Flower Pour (Adults)

Acrylic paint pouring is an exciting method for making unique, abstract art. In this class, we’ll start by learning about pouring mediums and how to mix paints to get consistent results. There will be a couple demonstrations, then you’ll get to create a unique painting of your own on an 8x8” canvas. In this session, we’ll learn how to create incredible floral shapes using plastic bottles. All supplies are included! Wear old clothes, it’s a messy medium. Paintings take 36 hours to dry, so you’ll need to come back to the Arts Center to pick up your painting later in the week.

Acrylic paint pouring is an exciting and trendy method for making unique, abstract art. In this class, you’ll learn what paint pouring is and how to mix paints to get consistent results. There will be a couple demonstrations, then you’ll get to create a unique painting of your own on a 9x12” canvas. We’ll learn the swipe technique to create dramatic cells in your paintings. All supplies are included! Wear old clothes, it’s a messy medium. Paintings take 36 hours to dry, so you’ll need to come back to the Arts Center to pick up your painting later in the week.

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! Express your digital voice! (Adults)

Join us to learn the craft of digital storytelling! Workshop participants will be empowered as digital storytellers to write, craft, and edit a digital story based on a personal experience. Participants will learn how to craft key story ingredients into a memorable video posted online. First we explore storytelling concepts, then write a short personal story, craft a video script, and create a digital story through video editing. Media Artist will conduct video editing in collaboration with digital storytellers during the week after class meetings end.

How to Photograph Beautiful Floral Images (Adults)

Have you always wanted to capture beautiful photos of flowers but don’t know where to start? In this single-session class, experienced nature photographer John Maciejny will begin with a slide presentation showing techniques for and examples of capturing beautiful floral images. You can use your photos in your artwork or as standalone images. After demonstrations of how to capture the best possible images, you will have an opportunity to take photos of live flowers using a variety of lighting, backgrounds, and interesting containers. You will receive handouts of photographic terms and hints to help you continue to create beautiful work at home. All levels of photography skill are welcome. Bring your film, digital, or smartphone camera.
