Jordan Kammer
Jordan Kammer has loved art, since she was very little when she would ask her mom to draw horses for her to color. Her first artistic goal was to be able to draw realistic horses, or at least ones that looked like the Black Stallion. In kindergarten, she wanted to be an artist "when she grew up."
Jordan has been a professional artist since 2005. Her career in art began with her senior art show at St. Olaf College, where she graduated with a B.A. in English and studio art. From there, Jordan began showing her work in Rockford, Illinois, where her parents live, which soon expanded into Louisville, KY, Michigan, and Minnesota. She has received numerous awards, including first prize for two-dimensional art in the Belgravia Court section of the St. James Court Art Show and the $1,000 grand prize in the Doors of Rockford Art Contest.
Jordan's preferred medium is soft pastels though she has worked in just about every other medium. She loves soft pastels due to the expressionist immediacy of working with pure color. Through a dedication to color and the fleeting quality of light, she endeavors to create a snapshot, not as a camera would take it, but as the mind would remember it - more luminous and rich in color with both fuzzy and sharp details.
A year and a half ago, Jordan moved to lovely Minneapolis. She is just beginning to discover the exciting art world of the Twin Cities. In 2008, she was resident artist for Alive Magazine, a local magazine created for young women by young women. Additionally, Jordan has participated in various local events including the Powderhorn Art Fair, the St. Paul Art Crawl, and the Edina Park Plaza Art Show. In addition to teaching at the Maple Grove Art Center, Jordan also teaches at the Edina Art Center, and Minneapolis Community Education at South High School. Jordan is also a member of the Lake Country Pastel Society. Currently, she is pursuing her Master's in Teaching from Hamline University of St. Paul and intends to teach elementary school and incorporate art into everyday learning.
