This is not a beginning class. Student needs to understand watercolor skills like washes, textures, negative space, color names, etc.

Student needs to understand watercolor skills like washes, textures, negative space, color names, etc. We will experiment with textures, color combinations and techniques to create a finished painting each week. We will start with a bird and backgrounds. Bring picture ideas that inspire you. Instructor will have sample pictures.

TUBE PAINT: Professional Grade like: Grumbacher, Winsor & Newton, Dick Blick, DaVinci
Do not purchase Michaels or Hobby Lobby brand paint or paint kits.
COLORS: Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Raw Sienna, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Cerulean Blue, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Sap Green.
Additional color tubes for this class are: Neutral Tint, Indigo, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Rose, Hansa Yellow, Burnt Umber, Imperial Purple.
Tube white gouache paint.
PAPER: 9x12 Arches 140lb Coldpress tablet or block. We paint small.
BRUSHES: Watercolor, not bristle. Size 6, 10, 12, 18 round, ¾ inch flat, liner brush
Purchase paint brush sets at Michaels with coupons. Hobby Lobby has a sale every other week.
You don’t need the exact sizes of brushes.
PALETTE: Plastic palette with at least 12 paint wells plus mixing areas. (minimum size 5x10) See ‘Mijello’
RESIST MASKING FLUID: Winsor & Newton Making Fluid or Pebeo Drawing Gum. Fluid resist pens are wasteful.
OTHER: roll of paper towels, roll of masking tape (not Dollar Tree), a ultra fine permanent black marker pen, gum eraser, pencil, large water container (like yogurt) small spray bottle like lens cleaner, hair spray, etc., small sketch book, scissors, (2) support boards approximately 9x12 inches to 12x18 inches. Small hair dryer. (2 already in class)
